Paperihattu was born out of a love for art, working with one's hands, and the idea that creativity doesn't have to be too serious. For us, art is a way to see the world a little differently – to notice the colors, the small details, and the stories around us.
We put on our paper hats and put our creative heads together.
And that’s how Paperihattu was born.
What brings us together is curiosity, a love of making things by hand, and an endless stream of ideas that, of course, we simply have to try out. Paperihattu began with a desire to create something of our own together – a place where we can paint, build, experiment, and occasionally make a bit of a mess, without too many rules.
To us, creativity is first and foremost about having the courage to experiment. Not everything needs to be planned in advance, and the outcome doesn’t always have to be predictable. Often, the best things happen when two creative minds come together and we simply see where the idea takes us.
From those first ideas, Paperihattu has grown into a creative studio where we make everything from small paintings to large-scale murals – and hopefully, in the future, plenty of things we haven’t even thought of yet.

Today, Paperihattu is a creative studio where art is born in many different forms.
We paint original works and create commissioned art for homes and other spaces. We design and paint murals for businesses, public spaces, and private homes. At the same time, we are constantly experimenting with new materials, techniques, and creative projects.
We also share our work on social media – works in progress, successes, failures, and those moments when an idea turns into something concrete for the first time.
So, Paperihattu is not just an art shop for us. It is a constantly evolving creative world.
We believe that art doesn't have to be inaccessible.
It can be beautiful, strange, funny, peaceful, or even a little imperfect. The most important thing is that it has something that makes you stop.
We are especially inspired by nature, animals, the Finnish forest, and the small details of everyday life. These create the world of Paperihattu, where the familiar and the slightly imaginative meet.
In working with our hands, experimentation is also important to us. Everything doesn't have to succeed on the first try – often the most interesting ideas are born precisely when the plan changes along the way.
Sonja Rissanen
I am a visual artist and one of the founders of Paperihattu. In my paintings, I specifically explore the relationship between nature, animals, and humans. I am fascinated by the Finnish forest, its atmosphere, and the small moments that easily go unnoticed.
I want to create art that leaves room for the viewer's own thoughts and stories – and that invites one to pause and return to it again.
I am Kaisa Rekinen, an illustrator and graphic designer from Vantaa. I have been doing creative work for about 25 years, and my journey has included countless different projects – small and large, delicate and bold, everyday and festive. Every job has been an opportunity to tell a story visually and to create something meaningful.
Pierre is our little frog adventurer who gets lost in the middle of our social media posts every now and then — sometimes in the background, sometimes in a corner, and occasionally right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. 👀
Pierre doesn't really know how to sit still. He hops around, dashes about, excitedly points at everything imaginable, and chatters away as if the world were full of one important discovery after another. And perhaps, in his mind, it is. 💭✨

We don’t want to know exactly what Paperihattu will look like in five years.
That is part of the charm of doing this.
We want to paint on a larger scale, execute new art projects, collaborate with interesting people and companies, and take the world of Paperihattu beyond Finland’s borders as well.
Above all, however, we want to maintain the same curiosity that started it all: what if we tried?
